Product Description

FIAM Brown Rice - Par Boiled

Parthiv Brown Rice is an indigenous and cherished rice variety preserved by the farmers of Raiganj, Bengal, reflecting generations of traditional farming wisdom and rural heritage. Carefully processed through gentle methods, it retains its natural bran layer and wholesome character.

How to Cook FIAM Brown Rice

For 1 cup (approximately 200 g) rice:

  1. Rinse Gently: Wash the rice 2–3 times with clean water without excessive rubbing, helping preserve its natural bran.
  2. Soak: Soak for 30–60 minutes to soften the bran and ensure more even cooking.
  3. Boil: Bring approximately 4–5 cups of water to a rolling boil.
  4. Cook: Add the soaked rice and cook uncovered over medium heat for approximately 20–30 minutes, or until the grains are tender.
  5. Drain the Starch (As per Choice): Once cooked, carefully drain off the excess cooking water using a colander.
  6. Rest: Return the drained rice to the warm vessel, cover and let it rest for 5–10 minutes.
  7. Fluff and Serve: Gently fluff with a rice spoon or fork and serve warm.

For a Healthier Meal

  • Keep the natural bran: Avoid vigorous washing or rubbing, as brown rice naturally retains its bran layer.
  • Drain excess cooking water (As per Choice): The draining method can produce a lighter, separate-grain preparation.
  • Build a balanced plate: Enjoy with dal, vegetables, leafy greens and a suitable protein source.
  • Mind the portion: Brown rice is nutritious, but portion size still matters for a balanced diet.
  • Eat it fresh and warm: Freshly prepared rice makes a wholesome addition to a varied everyday meal.

Tip: Brown rice generally takes longer to cook than highly polished white rice because its bran layer remains intact. Cooking time and water requirements may vary according to the rice batch, soaking time and cooking vessel.

Frequently Asked Questions

Brown Rice retains its natural outer layers after milling, giving it a naturally light-brown colour, firmer texture, and nuttier flavour than polished white rice.

Brown Rice retains more of the grain’s natural outer layers, while white rice is more extensively milled. This gives Brown Rice a firmer texture and generally more dietary fibre.

Yes. Its colour comes naturally from the retained outer layer of the grain. No artificial colouring is required.

Yes. Brown Rice is generally considered a whole-grain rice because much of the grain’s natural structure is retained during milling.

Yes. Rinse gently 2–3 times with clean water to remove surface dust and impurities.

Yes. Soaking for 30–60 minutes can help soften the grains, promote even cooking, and reduce cooking time.

After soaking, it generally takes around 25–35 minutes, although cooking time varies according to the variety, age of rice, and cooking method.

The retained natural outer layers make the grain firmer than polished white rice, so it generally requires more soaking and cooking time.

Draining excess cooking water can remove some starch that moves into the water during cooking and helps produce lighter, separate grains.

No. Brown Rice remains a carbohydrate-containing food. Draining may remove some starch, but it does not eliminate its carbohydrates.

Brown Rice generally contains more dietary fibre than polished white rice because more of the natural outer layers are retained.

Dietary fibre supports normal digestive health and contributes to a satisfying, balanced meal. Adequate water intake is also important when increasing fibre intake.

The retained natural layers contain various nutrients, including magnesium, phosphorus, manganese, and B-group vitamins. Exact nutritional values vary by rice and processing.

Brown Rice can provide more fibre and nutrients because more of the grain’s natural layers are retained. However, overall diet, portion size, and preparation determine the healthfulness of a meal.

Yes, for most people it can be part of a varied and balanced diet. Combine it with vegetables, pulses, protein, and other whole foods.

A simple balanced combination is Brown Rice + Dal or Pulses + Seasonal Vegetables + Leafy Greens + Suitable Protein.

Insufficient soaking, inadequate water, or insufficient cooking time can cause hardness. Soak properly and continue cooking until the grains are fully tender.

Yes. Pressure cooking can reduce cooking time and soften the grains. Water requirements vary according to the cooker and rice variety.

The retained natural outer layers naturally give Brown Rice a firmer, slightly chewy texture compared with polished white rice.

Yes. Cooking times may differ, so pre-soaking Brown Rice can help achieve more even cooking.

Normal cooking does not remove all the fibre because the natural outer layers remain part of the grain. Some nutrients can move into the cooking water, particularly when excess water is discarded.

Cool cooked rice promptly and refrigerate it in a clean, covered container if not consumed immediately. Avoid leaving it at room temperature for prolonged periods.
